Show-Stopping Decor: Toy Story Backdrop and Balloon Garland

Every epic party needs an eye-catching focal point, and our custom Toy Story-themed backdrop was the star of this rodeo. I used my muted color Woody backdrop and customized the first arch to say Reach Four The Sky and the smaller Woody arch to say "Gracen's 4th Birthday". Paired with a stunning balloon garland in Toy Story colors—think bold yellows, reds, blues, and of course some cow print to get that western theme in there—it created the ultimate Instagrammable moment.

Pro Tip: Adding a themed balloon garland to your event is one of the easiest ways to create a polished and cohesive look. It elevates any space, whether you’re hosting at home, at the park (like we were) or a larger venue, and works perfectly as a backdrop for photos or the cake table. It's also very cost-effective and makes SUCH a huge splash.

If you're in Nashville or Franklin, TN - I'm your balloon girl!! I would LOVE to make you something super custom and special for your next celebration. Shoot me a note & we will get started!

Interactive Activity: Cowboy Hat Decorating Station

Keeping kids entertained at a party can be tricky, but this cowboy hat decorating bar was a total crowd-pleaser. Each guest got to decorate their own cowboy or cowgirl hat - I found these hats on Amazon in bulk (such a score!) and they already have the string in them, so I just bought letter beads and a an assortment of other colorful beads that the kids could string on the hats. Just make sure they have a large enough hole to fit on the string, I did have some beads we couldn't use because they were too small! You could also include other craft supplies like glitter glue, stickers, markers, and pom-poms. This hands-on activity gave kids a creative outlet and kept them engaged for the entire party.

And the best part? The hats doubled as party favors! Not only did this cut down on waste, but it also meant every guest went home with something unique to remember the day. Bonus points for the photos this created along with the backdrop—parents loved snapping photos of their little cowboys and cowgirls wearing their custom creations!

Sweet Treats: Cupcake Decorating Station

Why settle for pre-made desserts when you can let the kids get creative? For this party, we swapped out a traditional birthday cake for cupcake decorating. The cupcakes were pre-frosted with plain white icing, and kids could add their own sprinkles in bright Toy Story-inspired colors. Not only was this a delicious activity, but it also made for adorable Instagram Stories as little hands decorated their masterpieces.

And an assortment of red, blue and yellow sprinkles, chocolate chips and marshmallows to pop into each little spot on the trays! HUGE hit!

How to make your kid's theme actually cute

When planning a kid’s birthday party, it’s easy to get caught up in the bright, bold colors often associated with popular themes, but there’s a way to make the celebration both kid-approved and aesthetically pleasing. For this Toy Story Rodeo-themed birthday, I elevated the classic Pixar vibe by incorporating muted, earthy tones to reflect the Western theme while still keeping the iconic Toy Story elements front and center. Instead of the traditional loud primary colors, I leaned into a palette of warm tans, soft yellows, and dusty blues, paired with subtle pops of Toy Story red and green for balance. The cowboy elements, like the hat decorating bar, rustic accents, and my custom balloon garland, tied it all together seamlessly, creating a cohesive design that felt sophisticated but still whimsical and fun for the birthday boy. It’s proof that with a little creativity, any kids’ theme can be transformed into something stylish and modern without sacrificing the magic they love!
